Virginia, Illinois, the County Seat of Cass County. Named for Lewis Cass, a soldier as well as a statesman, Territorial Governor of Michigan, Minister to France, United States Senator from Michigan, Secretary of War under Jackson, Secretary of State under Buchanan, and at one time a prominent candidate for the Presidency.

Located on routes 78 & 125, Virginia was founded by Dr. Henry Hall in 1836. The township is situated at the crossroads of routes 125 and 78 in the heart of Cass County. We're approximately 5 minutes away from Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area, 15 minutes from Beardstown, Illinois, 30 minutes from Jacksonville, Illinois, and 40 minutes from our state capitol, Springfield, Illinois. You will find plenty to do while here in our area!

Virginia's rural setting is proud of their Jennie Marr Dunaway Memorial Park with its pool. The local inhabitants and tourists alike enjoy the Rexroat authentic log cabin. As with any town, we offer restaurants, a grocery store, and some shopping for anyone visiting our town. We also have some great events ranging from the Virginia BBQ in June, our ice cream social Memorial Day weekend, Log Cabin Days in October, and Log Cabin Christmas.
